TALES OF EVIL (1975) #3 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Tales of Evil (1975) #3
Final issue. This is one of Atlas Seaboard short run titles showcasing some of the industry's top talent of the mid-1970s. Rich Buckler, in the middle of his fantastic run on Deathlok in Marvel's Astonishing Tales, takes time to illustrate and co-plot the strange origin of "Man-Monster" (written by Gary Friedrich and co-plotted by Tony Isabella, inks by Mike Vosburg). Ex-Olympic champion swimmer Paul Sanders is showing off his skill to two voluptuous magazine photographers when a strange sub-sea substance released by his father's oil-rigging platform washes over him, triggering an astounding change.

On shore, Sanders is transformed into a crimson-skinned amphibian with no memory of his former life. Weakened by these events, Sanders is taken back to the photographers' apartment where a cold shower returns him to human form. But as he rests, the swimmer is targeted by the costumed criminal known as Hell-Blazer, who has a bone to pick with Sanders for a failed attempt to rig the Olympics. Hell-Blazer's laser pistol fire triggers Sanders' transformation again and the Man-Monster emerges once more! In the next story, "The Bog Beast" encounters a female werewolf in a story written by Gabriel Levy and illustrated by Romero.
