SUPERMAN (1986) (#0-226, #650-714) (DC) #19 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Superman (1986) #19
"Power Failure" is written and drawn by John Byrne with cover art by Jerry Ordway. A white-hot U.F.O. soars in over the city and boils the water of Metropolis' waterways before sinking beneath the waves, killing several people and countless wildlife. And when the Man of Steel dives in to investigate, he finds the craft has oddly human craftsmanship and an empty escape pod. Soon thereafter, he also finds he can no longer hold his breath under water for superhuman periods of time. Next to go is his flight and then one by one, as he uses his powers, Superman loses them.

With barely enough strength left to stop a high-tech prison escape by robot master Professor Killgrave, Superman begins to suspect that something aboard the ship has set about to stealing each of his abilities. After being crashed into by a Mack Truck, even his much-vaunted invulnerability is gone. Then, when Superman is at his weakest, his foe reveals himself. The monstrous beast known as Dreadnaught emerges boasting that he now has each of the hero's super-powers. Meanwhile, Luthor has survived an operation that removed his Kryptonite-poisoned hand and has a new cybernetic hand installed. Lois Lane is less than impressed with the new "logical" Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen's Mom recognizes a man in one of Perry White's wall photos as being her long-lost husband.
