SOLAR, MAN OF THE ATOM (1991) #10 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Solar Man of the Atom (1991) #10
First appearance and origin of Geomancer. Many super-heroes owe their existence to radiation: Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four. But none so completely exemplify humanity's fear of the unchained atom as much as Solar, Man of the Atom. Valiant's update of the Silver Age Dell Comics' hero Dr. Solar is a true anti-hero and as such illustrates tragically our schizoid feelings about unleashing nuclear power. As Dr. Phillip Seleski, he was a scientist dedicated to bettering the lives of others and he was a man seeking the love of a good woman. But as Solar, he finds that each time he tries to reach out and use his power to make things better for someone else, he ends up destroying what he touches.

Here, we read the origin of Geomancer, a young boy abducted by an old mystic at an early age and then taught to listen to the Earth in some far-off retreat and eventually returned to his family. But Geoffrey McHenry has a difficult time re-settling into his old life, especially when he instinctively knows that the world he's in has been destroyed and re-created by Solar. Soon, he falls in with the Harbinger project and under the protection of Gilad, the Eternal Warrior. And a showdown with Solar is inevitable! "The Man Who Killed the World" is written by Jim Shooter and drawn by D. David Perlin, Stan Drake, John Dixon and Paul Autio. Also featuring Part 10 of "Alpha and Omega," co-written by artist Barry Windsor-Smith and Shooter.
