SEVEN SOLDIERS: GUARDIAN (MANHATTAN GUARDIAN) (2005) #2 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Seven Soldiers: Guardian (2005) #2
You got to hand it to writer Grant Morrison for consistently coming up with fresh concepts and mind-boggling new menaces that make even the most veteran of comic readers stand up and take notice. There is something new under the Sun! Here, Morrison and artist Cameron Stewart have adapted a Joe Simon/Jack Kirby creation, the Guardian, and given the concept new life. The old Guardian was a cop who befriends New York street urchins and takes a costumed identity to fight crooks who think they are above the law. Kirby re-invented him the 1970s in the pages of Jimmy Olsen as a clone of the original World War II mystery man, created by Cadmus Labs to battle their own creations who had gone amok. Morrison's Manhattan Guardian is a devoted family man named Jake Jordan who takes a job as the resident super-hero and reporter at large for the Manhattan Guardian newspaper.

His latest assignment finds him chasing after self-styled subway pirates who traverse forbidden and forgotten lines of track deep beneath the city in search of a gem they call the Heart of New York, created by the city's Masonic forefathers. One pirate called All-Beard, the worst of them all, has his wife Carla held hostage. And another, No-Beard, has become the Manhattan Guardian's tenuous ally as he masters his subway train The President Clinton in pursuit. Along the way they encounter strange creatures and perils and the breakneck speed of the chase inevitably brings both All-Beard and No-Beard to a dangerous fall. But as the Pirate-Kings battle it out in the last stages of their bloody lives, Jake rescues Carla and returns to the surface world a hero. But will the Manhattan Guardian again take to the streets in pursuit of the "hot story?"
