ROM (1979) (#1-75) (MARVEL) #59 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Rom (1979) #59
Guest-starring Ant-Man and Rick Jones. "A World Alive!" is written by Bill Mantlo and drawn by Steve Ditko and Bob Layton. The Dire Wraiths have tainted the waters of Earth, creating a wave of horrific mutation in the food chain that creates monsters of ordinary ants and eventually everything up the evolutionary ladder. Northern Canada is the epicenter of this flood of mutating black water and from there the Spaceknights Rom and Starshine begin their counter-assault. With the help of Ant-Man, our heroes begin to diminish in size in an attempt to locate and eradicate the source of the Wraith-taint at the molecular level.

The Spaceknights' journey into the heart of an ant's microbiology gives fantasy artist extraordinaire Ditko an opportunity to allow his talent for imagining bizarre landscapes to shine (see early issues of Strange Tales starring Doctor Strange for more classic examples). But as Gen. Merriwether Locklin and his Wraith-Hunter Rangers engage swarms of the mutated creatures on the surface world, Rom and Starshine realize that they can't directly attack the Wraith-taint without destroying the innocent creatures it has mutated. Instead, they must find a way to turn the ant's own immune system against the cursed blight!
