Plot Synopsis: Power Company: Sapphire #1
Guest-starring the JLA. The birth of new super-heroine! "Hatch of the Serpent's Egg" is written by Kurt Busiek with art by Mark Bagley. Downtown San Diego becomes a war zone between rival factions of the international terrorist organization known as Kobra. The JLA rushes in to stop the violence and in-between a young homeless girl on the run haplessly becomes part of something much larger and more dangerous than she could have ever dreamt.

To settle their differences, the warring Kobra agents seal out the JLA from interfering, and seal in many innocent Californians. Hiding in the Sea Serpent, Lord Kobra's monstrous submarine to escape the firefight, Candy Gennaro becomes eye-witness to the madness and cruelty of the dreaded Naja-Naja, spiritual leader of the criminal cult. But she also learns of the incredible power of the Serpent's Egg, the mystical artifact at the center of the inter-Kobra disute. Touching the gem she is coated with the liquid crystalline substance as hard as diamond and yet as malleable as mercury. With this new power, Sapphire battles her way to freedom and one step closer to joining the Power Company.
