MARVEL SPOTLIGHT (1971) (#1-33) (MARVEL) #8 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Marvel Spotlight #8
Starring the Ghost Rider. "The Hordes of Hell" is written by Gary Friedrich and illustrated by Mike Ploog and Jim Mooney. Many a time the Ghost Rider would clash with Satan, the lord of the underworld that spawns his powers. And many a time those conflicts would be fought through underlings and pawns, seduced by the devil's promises of power or revenge. In this tale from the '70s, Friedrich taps into the simmering anger of the Native Americans robbed of their land, lives and culture while Ploog succeeds at creating the unreal out of the every day.

Our tale begins with the Ghost Rider fighting Crash Simpson, the father of his girlfriend who is also his mentor in the bowels of hell. Crash has the power of Satan behind him but finds he cannot kill the young man he helped raise. After a host of demons attack, the Rider manages to evade being destroyed with the aid of a mysterious cloaked stranger. Back on Earth, Johnny Blaze prepares to jump Copperhead Canyon on his bike but soon falls afoul of Snakedance, the local tribal medicine man who is getting more than a little help from the Devil himself. There's no rest for the wicked, it seems.
