MAN-THING (1974) (#1-22) (MARVEL) #19 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Man-Thing (1974) #19
"The Scavenger of Atlanta" is written by Steve Gerber with art by Jim Mooney and Frank Springer with cover art by Gil Kane. The Man-Thing is a creature of the swamps of Citrusville, Florida but after radio DJ Richard Rory teamed with him to stop a local book-burning, the muck monster finds himself in a van on the run up I-75 with Rory and a teenage runaway. Stopping in Atlanta for the night, the unlikely trio finds itself in the middle of a bizarre revenge plot visited on anyone and everyone by a costumed madman calling himself the Scavenger.

Drawn by strong emotions, the Man-Thing lurks outside the home of a restless housewife in the midst of leaving her husband and children. But before Colleen Sanders gets halfway out of her driveway, she is beset by the Scavenger: a flying vampire who steals away her mind with a kiss. Throwing himself into the attacker, the Man-Thing makes himself a target of the Scavenger's brutality. As the Scavenger finds himself unable to harm the gooey beast, he moves on to other prey, satiating his hunger with a hapless donut shop worker. But later, at Rory's motel room, the Scavenger once again battles the Man-Thing and reveals obscure clues about his incredible origin.
