JLA CLASSIFIED (2004) #1 VARIANT - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: JLA Classified (2004) #1
"Island of the Mighty." Premiere issue. Writer Grant Morrison returns to the JLA with the help of artists Ed McGuiness and Dexter Vines. The JLA are missing and it's up to a new generation of heroes to pick up the slack. When super-terrorists threaten world security, the civilized world turns to the International Ultramarine Corps to neutralize the threat. In the wartorn African city of Kinshasa, Warmaker One, Goraiko, Jack O' Lantern, Glob, 4-Dee, the Knight and the Squire fly into the middle of the gunfire to cut out its source; the super-ape, Gorilla Grodd. But what they find in Grodd's lair is much more dangerous than a few super-strong homicidal simians.

Grodd has managed to locate a cube emitting radiation on the same wavelength as the infamous Nebula Man, who once threatened to destroy the entire planet during a cosmic crisis. While 4-Dee and Warmaker One try to deal with this object's enormous power, Gorilla Grodd breaks loose and rips into the fledgling heroes. Within minutes, the International Ultramarine Corps have fallen and the word reaches the one man capable of responding: the Batman. As he flies to the scene in his new flying saucer-type Bat-plane, the Dark Knight Detective encounters the Squire and carries her out of the fray via Boom Tube technology. While Grodd and Nebula scheme for planetary scale revenge, Batman shows the Squire the JLA's secret remote basis outside the orbit of Pluto and the robots he intends to use to replace the JLA.
