|Plot Synopsis: Hulk Annual (1968) #1|
Cover by Jim Steranko. Guest-starring the Inhumans. "A Refuge Divided!" is written by Gary Friedrich and drawn by Marie Severin and Syd Shores. Throughout his tortured and violent life, the Hulk has sought one thing above all else: a place to belong. That's not an easy feat for someone who is nearly seven feet tall, forest green and sporting enough muscle to tear down a mountain with his bare hands. And it's a task made even harder by the Hulk's child-like intellect which often mistakes a friendly hand for an aggressive attack.
But surely in Attilan, the remote mountain retreat of the Inhumans, the Hulk could find peace. Transformed by the wondrous powers of the Terrigen Mists, the Inhumans that dwell there are each unique; gifted with strange powers. They too are shunned by mankind as demons or evil spirits for their abilities and appearance. Surely here the gamma-ray spawned giant could find a friend.
The Hulk arrives in the middle of a ceremony wherein the Inhumans' leader Black Bolt is sentencing six malcontents to exile for advocating the violent overthrow of his rule. Falcona the Huntress, Leonus the Lion-Man, Aireo the Floating Man, Timberius the Tree-Dweller, Stallior the Centaur and Nebulo the Shadow are given life-sentences in the dreaded Un-Place and as fate would have it, the Hulk is drawn in with them as well! The dramatic events that follow draw the Jade Giant into conflict with Black Bolt himself with Mad Maximus pulling the strings and the fate of the universe in the balance! Also, don't miss a Marvel Masterwork Pin-Up featuring portraits of the Hulk by the Silver Age's greatest artists.
