Plot Synopsis: Hulk (1962) #126
First appearance of Valkyrie (as Barbara Norris) and Night-Crawler I. Guest-starring Doctor Strange. The beginnings of the greatest non-team of all time, the Defenders, can be found here as the Hulk is drawn in to the weird realm "...Where Stalks the Night-Crawler!" (written by Roy Thomas with art by Herb Trimpe). A group of cultists led by a man named Van Nyborg worship nightmarish creatures called the Undying Ones who dwell in another dimension.

Their initial attempt to forge a bridge to our world for their demonic masters was thwarted by Sub-Mariner and Doctor Strange, the Master of the Mystic Arts (see Sub-Mariner #22), who created a barrier around Earth. However, the magician was trapped in the other dimension unable to escape arcane bonds. Now, Van Nyborg has a new plan: send the Hulk in to a neighboring dimension to defeat its master, the terrifying Night-Crawler, so the Undying Ones might pass through there on their way to Earth. And if Bruce Banner won't fight, Van Nyborg is willing to sacrifice one of his one, the beautiful Barbara, as incentive. (Barbara Norris would later go on to become the Valkyrie).
