HOUSE OF MYSTERY (1951) #165 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: House of Mystery (1951) #165
Starring Dial H for Hero. "The Freak Super-Heroes" is drawn by Jim Mooney. Get ready for a weird ride as a freak solar storm plays havoc with Robby Reed's dial and turns him into a trio of bizarre super-heroes. Our story begins as mobster Georgie Craft convinces his fellow crooks in the Syndicate that he has the solution to all the problems hoodlums have with costumed super-heroes. He introduces Dr. Rigoro Mortis and his greatest creation, a human-like robot named Super-Hood. This Frankenstein-inspired pair promise the underworld leaders that they'll be able to set super-traps for any costumed do-gooders that might try to interfere with the Syndicate's business. Before long, Super-Hood gets his chance to prove his worth.

When Super-Hood attempts a bank robbery, Robby Reed spins his dial. But because of the sunspots, Robby becomes an odd round bouncing creature known as the Whoozis. He tries to stop the android but falls into a trap and nearly suffocates. Later, during an apparent armed robbery, Robby flies in as the boomerang-shaped Whatsis but once again falls to the superior powers of Super-Hood. Although he barely survives a second time, Robby has to try again to foil the criminals and so spins his dial a third time. This time, Robby becomes a robotic pinball machine called Howzis, whose powers are determined by where the pinball lands within his metal frame. Somehow Robby must use these freakish abilities to wrap up the case. Also, thrill as J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter from Mars, becomes a walking nuclear reactor thanks to the criminal genius known as Prof. Arnold Hugo in "The Deadly Martian."
