Plot Synopsis: House of M (2005) #5
Story by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Olivier Coipel and Tim Townsend. More and more of the Marvel Universe heroes are beginning to wake up to the fact that the world in which they live is no more than a fabrication of the Scarlet Witch, the mentally unbalanced daughter of Magneto. How would you react if you suddenly were made to realize that your entire life is a lie? Wolverine gave up the directorship of S.H.I.E.L.D. Emma Frost and Cyclops let go of a blissful married life without fear of mutant prejudice. And Spider-Man lost Gwen Stacy and Uncle Ben all over again in a painful re-run of his most heart-wrenching experiences.

The key to unlocking the truth in these heroes' minds is a young girl named Layla Miller who somehow has the ability to break through the reality-shaping hex cast by Wanda Maximoff. But now that many of the Avengers and the X-Men have their memories back they have to decide what to do about the House of M, the aristocracy Magneto and his children have built up around themselves on the isle of Genosha. And what should they do to try to set the world aright? The first step, they reason, is to find Charles Xavier. But is the famed founder of the X-Men still alive in this new reality?
