HAWK AND DOVE (1989) #3 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Hawk & Dove (1989) #3
"Blood and Sacrifice!" is written by Barbara and Karl Kesel and drawn by Greg Guler and Scott Hanna. Azure, the living embodiment of the Aztec goddess Huitzilopochtli, has the Washington, D.C. police in a stand-off. With Hawk helpless and defeated her feet and a sword crackling with energy above her head, she demands blood sacrifice in the middle of the city street. Only the lovely Dove's deft interference at the right moment distracts the ancient deity from her gory task. But can Dove survive Azure's superhuman strength and ultra-swift power of flight? With the help of the city's Special Crimes Unit, Dove gets out alive and Azure is buried under a pile of concrete. But nothing can stop her quest for the perfect sacrifice and soon Azure has risen, taken a hostage and flown off.

When Hawk recovers, he and Dove pursue but lose their prey. Figuring that they've got until morning to rescue the innocent hostage since Azure will only sacrifice at dawn, the crime-fighting pair revert to their civilian identities. Amid the chaos of their everyday lives (much of it brought on by their overzealous new roommate Ren), Hawk and Dove puzzle out how a street kid could become a goddess merely by believing an amulet worn by Dove's mother had the power to transform her into one. And when they find Azure and her hostage at the very top of the Washington Monument in mid-sacrifice, Dove uses psychology to try to plant doubt about her identity in Azure's mind. And as doubt creeps in, her godly power wanes!
