HARD BOILED (MAGAZINE)(FRANK MILLER/GEOF DARROW) (1990) #3 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Three-issue series, color, 32 pages, $4.95 cover (#1) $5.95 cover (#2 & #3), magazine format, Adult

Description This Issue:
Incredibly violent story based in a future described by a letter-writer as a cross between the 1950's and BLADERUNNER. Nixon is the 4th in a series of cyborgs created to eliminate the competitors of an evil appliance company. The plot of the series revolves around the difficulties he has in accepting his ""real"" life as a tax collector. He continually keeps flashing on past events and is in a state of denial that he is anything but human. This does not mesh, however, with an ongoing series of battles in which his ""human"" exterior is constantly, and traumatically, damaged. Frank Miller wrote this story about the time he also wrote TERMINATOR II, and you come away with the impression that in this instance he chose to write a story in which the robots/cyborgs are the heroes and the humans are the evil enemy. The artwork by Geof Darrow is absolutely fantastic, but conveys the horrific images of Miller's story in such a chilling fashion that the reader is left feeling slightly nauseous after experiencing each issue. This series also has some incidental sexual scenes, but it is the over-the-top violence that makes the series an ""Adults Only"" package. It should be noted that the coloring job by Claude Legris is also quite remarkable.
