CONAN (1970) (#1-275) (CONAN THE BARBARIAN) (MARVEL) #40 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Conan (1970) #40
"The Fiend from the Forgotten City" is written by Roy Thomas with art by Rich Buckler and Ernie Chan. In the northern reaches of the desert separating Turan from the Hyborean Kingdoms, Conan wanders aimlessly until he comes across evidence of another rider sharing his exile. Following a trail of hoof-prints, the young barbarian encounters an old man named Libro, who speaks of fabled Ababenzzar, a ruined city wherein treasures lie. His interest piqued, Conan agrees to take the feeble wise man the rest of the way on his journey.

Reaching Ababenzzar, Conan finds the once-resplendent city now in disarray with bodies of fallen warriors strewn about the streets. He also finds a band of thieves trying to agree how to divide up the treasure they've discovered and that he was promised. Thirdly, Conan finds a silver-haired beauty named Alonia, whose presence riles the brigands to attack. On the run now from their superior numbers, Conan and Alonia reunite with Libro and the horses across the city. But within moments, Libro reveals his true nature: that of a priest capable of summoning a gigantic horned demon to do his bidding and Conan feels ever bit his pawn!
