CHAMBER OF DARKNESS (1969) #4 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Chamber of Darkness #4
Conan "tryout" issue with Barry Windsor Smith. Brand new art by Jack Kirby and Tom Sutton. This all-new anthology of horror stories marks some of Kirby's last work for Marvel before inventing the Fourth World mythology for DC. Plus, Smith's Starr the Slayer was the publisher's tryout for a regular Conan the Barbarian series a comic Smith made famous for quality with writer Roy Thomas. "The Monster" is written by Kirby as well (a Marvel rarity until 1975). On a far hill, three witches see the face of Andreas Flec, who villagers fear and loathe as the Monster who lives in luxury in the ancient castle. All Flec seeks is a music box with which to please his precious Marie. But when angry villagers storm the castle, they find out the Monster's dread secret and Marie's true nature.

In "The Man Owned the World," Sutton also plots and draws a story about a rich man who sought to be frozen alive, reawakened in the future, and realize his twisted dream of wealth. He finds out soon money means nothing when you're last inhabitant of Earth. Script is by Denny O'Neil. "The Sword and the Sorcerers" finds a fantastic barbarian crossing over to our modern-day world to find enemies every bit as treacherous as the wizards and demons of his own realm. Drawn by Smith; written by Thomas.
