AVENGERS: INITIATIVE (2007) #2 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Avengers: The Initiative #2
"Hero Moment" is written by Dan Slott with art by Stefano Caselli. When you are willing to do anything to achieve national security, employ any weapon, adopt any tactic, your actions can quickly leave you unable to differentiate yourself from your enemy. Jung called this phenomenon the "Monstrous Double," in which the "hero" and the "villain" become so similar as to be indistinguishable. Writer Slott clearly has this dynamic in mind when penning his broad comparison of Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib and countless "secret" CIA-run torture rooms overseas with the post-Civil War Marvel Universe.

At Fort Hammond, instructors Yellowjacket, Gauntlet, Justice and War Machine work with raw super-human recruits, training them to become a part of Tony (Iron Man) Stark's 50-state Initiative. But the accidental death of MVP, the grandson of the scientist who created Captain America's Super-Soldier formula, has cast a pall over the youngsters and revealed a dark agenda beneath the patriotic public front. And Yellowjacket (never the most stable hero to begin with) has a crisis of conscience while thwarting a Hydra-led attack against President George W. Bush!
