ASTONISHING X-MEN (2004) (#1-68) (MARVEL)(JOSS WHENDON) #9 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Astonishing X-Men (2004) #9
Written by Joss Whedon and drawn by John Cassaday. Professor X set up the Danger Room so that his X-Men might have a place to hone their battle skills before going out into the world to combat evil mutants. When it was first built, the room would hurl spiked balls, whirling axes, and smashing hammers against the mutant heroes. Later, robots were added to give the X-Men intelligent adversaries to train against. But with the introduction of technology given to Prof. X by the alien Shi'ar, the Danger Room became a place where holographic images could create any kind of environment and peril its creator could imagine. What Charles Xavier could not have anticipated, however, was as the Danger Room got more sophisticated it also became more intelligent ... and self-aware. Now, the X-Men who once turned to the Danger Room as a resource for making them ready for their noble struggle outside the walls of the X-Mansion must fight the Danger Room itself which has decided it must fulfill its mission: destroy the X-Men.

Having lured the adult X-Men out of the house by activating a half-destroyed Sentinel, the Danger Room has maneuvered the young students of Xavier's school into its clutches. Only Kitty Pryde stands between its malevolence and the near-helpless adolescent mutants trapped inside. While Wolverine, Colossus, Beast, Cyclops and Emma Frost try to shut down the Danger Room from the outside, the chamber creates more and more horrifying environments to torture the young mutants it holds captive. When the X-Men get close to shutting down its systems, the Danger Room exercises its control over outside computer systems by turning the team's own Blackbird jet against them. With its impressive array of armament that would be enough to keep the X-Men at bay but the Danger Room has just begun hurling peril at its former masters!
