JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (1960) (#1-261) (DC) #255 - Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Justice League of America (1960) #255
"Rising" is written by Gerry Conway and Michael Ellis with art by Luke McDonnell and Bill Wray. Origin of Gypsy. First appearance and origin of Adam. The JLA was formed to act as a team to combat evil menaces too dangerous for them to face alone. But sometimes, conflicting priorities or outside forces cause the team-mates to ignore the needs of their colleagues and follow their own agendas. Witness as Gypsy tracks and counsels a young streetwalker who helped frame J'onn Jonzz, the Martian Manhunter for murder, ignoring her JLA emergency call, for fear of losing the girl to the streets once more.

Meanwhile, the Martian Manhunter pursues his own line of investigation as detective John Jones, a rather antiquated identity he's kept for himself, and finds himself trapped in an blazing inferno. And Zatanna, now a prisoner of people she'd trusted, has been drained of some of her magical birthright by the would-be godling Adam. Filled with mystic power, Adam claims to personify the ultimate in both homo sapiens and homo magi, the species of human represented by Zatanna and her departed father Zatara. He declares himself a god and when Zatanna manages to send a distress signal to her fellow JLA-ers, Adam steals her image as well as her power to turn them away!
