Plot Synopsis: Green Lantern (1960) #14
First appearance and origin of Sonar. "The Man Who Conquered Sound" is written by John Broome and drawn by Gil Kane. Imagine a foe that can throw a punch from a block away or turn the air itself yellow, the one thing Green Lantern's ring holds no power over. Now you can imagine the peril our hero finds himself in when he tries to stop Sonar from menacing the United States. Our tale starts in the tiny Eastern European country of Modora where G.L. has come to collect a rare postage stamp for his friend Thomas "Pieface" Kalmaku's collection.

While conducting a psychic sweep with his ring, the Emerald Gladiator stumbles across the worried thoughts of an aging clockmaker who knows his disgruntled assistant Bito Wladon intends to menace the U.S. with his amazing devices that give him mastery over sound. Flying back to the states, our ring-slinging hero must confront Bito, now calling himself Sonar, in a deadly duel over the city! Next, Hal Jordan accidentally swaps rings with his brother Jim Jordan and ends up having to call him "My Brother, Green Lantern!" (also by Broome and Kane). Also, don't miss the astounding science facts of "It's Hard to Believe, But..."
